(In ALL CASES “he” and “his” shall be taken to mean “she” and “her” or “they” and “their” where appropriate.)1. NAME: 2. OBJECTS: (d) To co-operate with, and extend and amplify the efforts of other Clubs, Societies and Associations formed for the like or similar purposes. (f) To make known to the public the outstanding qualities of the breeds, and to do all things that may be deemed advisable and necessary to promote the interests of the members of the Association. (g) To exercise such disciplinary and other powers as the Association shall deem fit. (h) To encourage frequent meetings and social activities of members and to further members’ knowledge of the breeds as and when possible. 3. MEMBERS: 3.2.0 The names and addresses of members shall be kept on file and published in the annual Herd Book as the “Register of Members of the New Zealand Dairy Goat Breeders Association Inc.” The file shall be open for inspection by members. 4. ADMISSION: 4.2.0 Membership will only be accepted on receipt of a completed Membership Application form and payment of current membership fee. 4.3.0 No nominated agent on behalf of any member having been excluded from membership may have their application for membership approved. 4.4.0 Council reserves the right to decline an application for membership and shall give in writing the reason/s. 5. MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL: 5.1.0 A membership renewal application form shall be sent to all current members including affiliated groups at their last known address. By renewing their membership they agree to be bound by the current Rules and Regulations and Policies and Procedures of the Association. 5.2.0 Membership will only be accepted on receipt of a completed membership renewal application form and payment of current membership fee. 5.3.0 A copy of the current Rules and Regulations, Policies and Procedures shall be forwarded to each current member including affiliated groups. At all times members must be supplied with alterations to rules and regulations. 5.4.0 No excluded member nor their partner, spouse, children, family trust members, estate executives or any other nominated agent, real or implied, may apply for a membership renewal on behalf or in their place. 6. SUBSCRIPTIONS: The Annual Subscription to the Association shall be fixed by the Council in January each year, and shall be notified to members in the next issue of the “Dairy Goat News”. The subscription shall be payable in advance as at 1 March each year, and the subscription renewal forms will be sent to members at their last known address. No member shall be allowed to vote or compete for any prizes or trophies of the Association or in any way enjoy the privileges of membership until his subscription and all other outstanding amounts due by him to the Association have been paid. Subscriptions must be paid before closing entries of shows. A person becoming a member between January 1 and February 28 shall be granted membership until February 28 in the ensuing year. 7.1.0 TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP 7.1.3 Whenever any person shall cease to be a member of the Association his name shall be removed from the Register, and he shall, from that date of his ceasing to be a member, cease to have any claim or interest in respect of the Association, and shall forthwith return to the Association any cups or trophies that, being the property of the Association, are in his possession at that time. 7.1.4 TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP 8. MEMBERSHIP MISCONDUCT: (b) If the majority of council deems further action to be appropriate then any complaint coming under this sub-clause shall be brought before a special meeting of the Council of the Association convened for that purpose, of which the member affected shall have twenty one days previous notice, stating the nature of the charge, sent to him by post in a prepaid person to person registered letter addressed to him at his last registered address. (c) If such a meeting by a resolution of at least two-thirds of the councillors present thereat shall resolve to exclude the member, he shall thereupon cease to be a member, except that he may, within twenty-one days lodge an appeal to be heard before an Extraordinary General Meeting, convened for that purpose. The decision of the Extraordinary General Meeting shall be final. The Association shall be managed by a National Council of up to nine with a minimum of six members, who shall be elected and hold office in the manner hereinafter provided. Councillors must be financial members for each year they hold office. The number of Councillors for the incoming year is to be predetermined by Council at the January Council meeting. 9.2.0 FUNCTIONS OF COUNCIL: The Council shall exercise all the powers and perform all the duties for which the Association has been established unless required to be exercised and performed otherwise by Statute, and shall have full power to do all such things as may be incidental or conducive to the Objects of the Association. 9.2.1 BREED GROUPS 9.3.0 TERM OF OFFICE: Members of the Council excepting those appointed to fill casual vacancies shall hold office for three years. Members who have completed their three years in office shall stand down by retirement or by resignation prior to each Annual General Meeting. 9.3.1 Retiring Councillors shall be eligible for re-election on being duly nominated. 9.4.0 ELECTION OF COUNCIL: 9.4.1 The Secretary shall give notice in the first issue of the Association’s Publication each year, of those Councillors retiring by rotation. Nominations for the vacated positions will be called for. 9.4.2 Candidates for election must be financial members and must be proposed and seconded by financial members of the Association. This excludes junior, intermediate and associate members. The nomination form must be signed by the proposer and seconder and endorsed by the nominee and reach the Registrar not later than 60 days prior to the date of the forthcoming Annual General Meeting. It may be accompanied by a brief resume of the candidate’s qualifications which may be sent with the voting paper at the Council’s discretion. 9.4.3 The Registrar shall, not later than 30 days prior to the forthcoming Annual General Meeting, issue voting papers to all financial members. The voting paper is to be completed and must be received by the Registrar at least seven days before the Annual General Meeting. The fact that any member does not receive a voting paper shall not invalidate the ballot providing that a voting paper was sent to the last known address. 9.4.4 Each member who votes shall record his vote by striking out the names for whom he does not wish to vote. 9.4.5 Any voting paper not marked as required by paragraph 9.4.4 shall be invalid. 9.4.6 The voting papers shall be opened and inspected at the Annual Conference and the number of valid votes for each candidate recorded by three scrutineers. The three scrutineers shall be appointed by the Council during the Annual Conference and may be members entitled to vote but who are not candidates for office. The scrutineers are to elect their own leader from the appointed scrutineers. The scrutineers are to count all votes privately prior to the Annual General Meeting and the Chief Scrutineer is to announce the names of the candidates and the number of votes cast to the Annual General Meeting when appropriate to the meeting. 9.4.8 Voting papers shall not be destroyed until a period of six months has elapsed. 9.4.9 If insufficient nominations to fill the vacancies on Council are received, a notice will be circulated with the Annual Report, advising members that an election will be held at the Annual General Meeting to fill the remaining vacancies and that written and verbal nominations of financial members, proposed and seconded by financial members, will be accepted at the Annual General Meeting. 9.5.0 CASUAL VACANCIES: 9.6.0 VACATION OF OFFICE: 9.7.0 EXECUTIVE: 9.7.1 In the event of there being no nominations of eligible Councillors or only nominations deemed invalid, the president will be elected from the floor at the Annual General meeting. 9.7.2 Those filling casual vacancies of less than a year are not eligible for nomination for president if re-elected as a councillor unless they have served a recent year term within the preceding three years of the election. 9.7.3 The Executive members of Council shall be President, Immediate Past President, Senior Vice-President and Junior Vice-President. The Immediate Past President shall be confirmed at each Annual General Meeting for a term of one year only following the election of the President at that meeting. Senior Vice-President and Junior Vice-President shall be nominated and elected at each Annual General Meeting of the Association, for a term of one year. To be eligible for nomination they must be a member of the newly elected Council and have been a member of the Council for at least one year immediately preceding election. 9.8.0 COUNCIL MEETINGS: 9.9.0 SUBCOMMITTEES: 10. REGISTRAR/TREASURER: 11. EDITOR: 12. PATRON AND VICE-PATRON: 13. COUNCIL MEETINGS: (b) At all Council Meetings the President, or in his absence one of the Vice-Presidents, or in their absence any other duly elected Chairman shall take the chair. (c) Minutes of all Council Meetings must be kept in a properly constituted Minute Book, such Minutes to be courtesy read and confirmed at the following Council Meeting. (e) On all questions (elective or otherwise) the President or other person occupying the chair shall have a deliberative vote, or in the case of an equality of votes, he shall have a further casting vote. (a) General Meetings. In addition to the Annual General Meeting the Association may hold Ordinary General Meetings at such convenient places or times as may be determined at any Council Meeting. Not less than seven days notice of such meeting shall be sent to Members by circular. A quorum for any General Meeting shall be ten members including the Secretary or Secretary’s representative and at least one other member of the Council. (b) At all General Meetings the President, or in his absence a Vice-President, or in their absence any other duly elected Chairman shall take the chair. (c) On all questions whether upon an election or consideration of a motion or amendment every financial member lawfully present shall be entitled to one vote to be exercised in person, and such voting shall be by show of hands unless a secret ballot is called for by three members. 15. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETINGS: (b) The agenda for every General Meeting, Annual General Meeting, Ordinary or Extraordinary shall be prepared by the Council Secretary. (d) Any motion passed at a general meeting or annual general meeting in which changes to the rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the Association may or will result and/or be implied or intended, shall be presented to the Council as a recommendation. If the recommendation as a motion is not accepted by a majority vote of the Council members, the recommendation shall go to the membership as a ballot vote. The vote shall be accepted if fifty five percent of the valid votes cast are in agreement. Ballot voting papers will be sent to all members eligible to vote within ten days of the council meeting. 16. OTHER MEETINGS: (b) Special Council Meetings: A special council meeting may only be called by the Executive and a majority of other council members to discuss a serious breaking of rules. 18. ALTERATION OF RULES Any six or more members entitled to vote may submit to the Secretary or Registrar in writing a proposed alteration to these Rules. The Secretary or Registrar will place this motion before the Council at the next regular meeting of the Council. All such proposals shall be circulated to members with Notice of Annual General Meeting. At the Annual General Meeting the matter will be introduced and discussed. Proposals may be revised or withdrawn at the termination of the discussion with the agreement of the proposer (or the designated representative). At the end of the discussion the Chairman shall announce the provisional date for the postal vote, which shall be no later than the third week of June, allowing time for a report of the discussion to reach members either through the Dairy Goat News or by some other means. The Secretary or Registrar shall then post a voting paper to each member eligible to vote, addressed to such member at his last recorded address, and such voting paper shall bear on its face, a date not being earlier than the date of posting. Each member shall write “Yes” or “No” to each proposal in respect of which he desires to vote, according to whether he is for or against such proposal, and post it to the Secretary or Registrar. Any voting paper not so completed, or which is not received by the Secretary or Registrar within 30 days of the date appearing on such voting paper as aforementioned, shall be invalid. The Secretary or Registrar shall place such voting papers received by him before the Council, and if the Council finds not less than 55% of the valid votes cast are in favour of any such proposal, it shall declare such proposal to be carried, and it shall take effect accordingly but otherwise the proposal shall be deemed to be rejected. The fact that any member does not receive a voting paper shall not invalidate the ballot providing that a voting paper was forwarded to the last known address of such member. It shall be the duty of the Secretary or Registrar to convey the results of the voting to the members by publishing them in the October issue of the “Dairy Goat News”. Every such approved alteration of the Rules shall, as soon as conveniently possible, be forwarded by the Secretary or Registrar to the Registrar of Incorporated Societies for registration, and shall not take effect until so registered. 19. ACCOUNTS AND AUDIT: (d) An Auditor will be elected at each annual general meeting. (e) The accounts shall be made up to the last day in February in each year and a Balance Sheet containing a summary of the property and liabilities of the Association on that day and the yearly accounts of receipts and expenditure to that day shall be made out. Such accounts with all vouchers and receipts and all books kept by the Association and also the Balance Sheet shall be submitted to the examination of the appointed Auditor who shall report thereto the Members of the ensuing Annual General Meeting certifying in such report as to the correctness of such Balance Sheets and accounts. (f) The Auditor shall retire from Office at the next Annual General Meeting after his appointment but shall be eligible for re-election. (g) No Member of the Association shall be eligible for election as Auditor. (h) The operation of the Association’s Banking Account shall be decided by the Council from time to time by resolution approved and duly entered in the Minutes. (a) A goat may be eligible for registration in the Herd Register if it conforms to one of the accepted breed sections and is free of disqualifying faults for that breed. (b) A goat may be eligible for recording in the Associated Records provided it conforms to the appropriate breeding requirements as detailed in Regulation 3 and is free of disqualifying faults appropriate to the breed for the Crossbred or Appendix Record in which it is to be placed. Disqualifying faults for each breed section are: SABLE: BRITISH ALPINE TOGGENBURG: ANGLO NUBIAN: 2. HERD REGISTER (i) Male and Female progeny when the sire is registered in the Herd Register Saanen Section, and the dam is registered in the Herd Register Saanen Section or recorded in Appendix A Saanen Section (refer to Regulation 3 (b)(i) or Crossbred Record A (refer to Regulation 3(a)(ii). (e) ANGLO NUBIAN SECTION: (f) OTHER (a) CROSSBRED RECORD: CROSS-BRED X: shall be open to progeny of a Herd Register buck and Herd Register doe of any two recognised dairy breeds (i.e. Crossbred X goats are half bred). CROSS-BRED Y: shall be open to progeny of Herd Register sire or dam mated to a Crossbred X goat that is half that same breed (i.e. Crossbred Y goats are three quarter bred). CROSS-BRED Z: shall be open to progeny of Herd Register sire or dam mated to a Crossbred Y goat that is three quarters that same breed (i.e. Crossbred Z goats are seven eighths bred). CROSS-BRED A: shall be open to progeny of Herd Register sire or dam mated to a Crossbred Z goats that is seven eighths that same breed (i.e. Crossbred A goats are fifteen sixteenths bred). In addition to the above Crossbred Y, Z and A goats may be interbred, provided that the sire or dam of each goat is a Herd Register goat of the same breed. The resulting progeny is to be placed in the Crossbred Record of the lower placed parent (e.g. Crossbred A mated to Crossbred Y, the progeny to be placed in Crossbred Y). (ii) Male and female progeny of Herd Register sire or dam mated to a Crossbred A goat who is 15/16ths that same breed, shall be accepted for Herd Register. (b) APPENDICES: APPENDIX D: shall be open to kidded does with a minimum of height of 685mm (27”) to be preferably of known pedigree and to be of good dairy type,. Every application will be considered on its individual merits and must be inspected by a person or persons appointed by Council. APPENDIX C: shall be open to female progeny of Appendix D does and mated to a buck from the Herd Register of the same breed. APPENDIX B: shall be open to female progeny of Appendix C does mated to a buck from the Herd Register of the same breed. APPENDIX A (NUBIAN BREED ONLY AND ONLY UNTIL 31 JULY 2011): shall be open to female and male progeny of Appendix B does mated to a buck from the Herd Register of the same breed. (i) Appendix A bucks bred to Appendix does – the offspring to keep the Appendix status of the dam.(ii) Appendix A bucks bred to Herd Register does – the offspring to keep the Herd Register status of the dam. APPENDIX A (FOR ALL OTHER BREEDS): shall be open to female progeny of Appendix B does mated to a buck from the Herd Register of the same breed. (i) PROGENY OF APPENDIX A DOES: (ii) PLACEMENT OF PROGENY OF APPENDIX A BUCKS: -Female progeny resulting from matings to other than Herd Register does of the same breed may be placed onto the same level as the dam. -No male progeny from Appendix A bucks excepting those from Herd Register dams, may be Registered or Recorded. REGISTERED NUMBERS: (b) All entries in the Crossbred X record shall be given the letters XX, followed by a number, followed by P for polled or naturally hornless animals, or H for animals that are horned or have been dehorned or disbudded. (c) All entries in the Crossbred Record shall be given the breed letter followed by X, followed by the generation letter (i.e. Y, Z or A) followed by a number, followed by P for polled or naturally hornless animals, or H for animals that are horned or have been dehorned or disbudded. (d) All entries in Appendices shall be given the breed letter(s), followed by the Appendix letters (i.e. D, C, B, or A) followed by a number, followed by P for polled or naturally hornless goats, or H for goats which are horned or which have been dehorned or disbudded. (e) All entries in Recorded Grade Record shall be given the Recorded Grade letters RG, followed by a number, followed by P for polled or naturally hornless animals, or H for animals which are horned or which have been dehorned or disbudded. (f) All entries in the Experimental Record shall be given the Experimental Record letter E, followed by a number, followed by P for polled or naturally hornless animals, or H for animals which are horned or which have been dehorned or disbudded. 5. SERVICE CERTIFICATES 6. AGE DEFINITION (b) A male goat up to a year old is a buck kid. A male goat over one year old to two years old is a buckling. A male goat over two years old is a buck. 7. MEMBERS REGISTRATION AS A BREEDER (b) The prefix cannot exceed 15 letter spaces and is to be one word. This prefix is to be used solely for the purposes of the membership registering it. No other member may use another’s prefix. The ear tattoo is a combination of three alphabet letters only. The ear tattoo is to be used solely for the purposes of the membership registering it. No other member may use another’s ear tattoo. (c) Council has the right to refuse a prefix (stud name) and ear tattoo if those submitted are considered likely to cause confusion or may have been previously registered. (d) Each membership of Double, Single, Intermediate, Junior, Partnership, Company and Life may register one prefix and one ear tattoo, but may register additional prefixes and ear tattoos up to a total of four (4) upon payment of the current fees. (e) A prefix and ear tattoo retaining fee will be charged at the time of membership renewal for the second and subsequent prefixes and ear tattoos that have been registered. (f) The purchaser of a stud shall have no rights to the previous owners registered prefix or ear tattoo without the sanction of the previous owner in writing and with the approval of the Council. (g) The beneficiaries of a bequeathed herd may, on becoming a member, apply in writing to use the prefix and ear tattoo of the deceased member. (h) All prefixes and ear tattoos will be published in the annual Herd Book and “Registered Prefixes and Tattoos”. 8. NAMING OF GOATS (b) No duplicate spelling of a name already registered or recorded with the same breeder under the same prefix can be used. (c) The name shall be preceded by the breeder’s (registered owner of the dam) registered prefix. (d) The name can consist of letter, hyphens, numbers, Roman numerals and spaces within the 15 spaces. 9. PERMANENT IDENTIFICATION OF GOATS: (b) If the goat is to be tattooed the right ear shall bear the breeder’s registered three letter ear tattoo and the left ear a letter denoting the year of birth and the goat’s number in the herd. No duplicate tattoos can be used in the same year. The letter denoting the year of birth will be announced by Council before the beginning of the year and published in the Dairy Goat News in the February issue. (c) If the goat is to be microchipped the chip shall be inserted in the web of the tail. (d) As each goat is permanently identified, a completed Application to Register or Record form or card is to be completed with the identical tattoo or microchip number in the space provided, to denote the exact identification carried by the animal. (e) Any goat which has been permanently identified but not registered or recorded, and is sold, will receive the prefix of the purchaser when applying for Recorded Grade or Appendix D. Such an application will be approved at the Council’s discretion. (f) Any goat which has not been permanently identified and is sold by the breeder, will receive the registered prefix and ear tattoo of the purchaser for Recorded Grade or Appendix D. 10. RETATTOOING OF GOATS (a) Every goat registered or recorded with the association shall be identified by its ear tattoos or microchip. (b) Should the ear tattoos or part thereof, become illegible, the owner must notify the Registrar/Treasurer and make application to the Council to have the animal re-tattooed. (c) A witness, be it classifier, judge or member as directed by the Council, will verify the re-tattooing. 11. APPLICATION TO REGISTER OR RECORD GOATS (b) Application to register or record shall be made as soon as possible after birth. A scale of fees set by the Council and published in the Dairy Goat News shall apply. The appropriate fee along with the completed Application to Register or Record card is to be forwarded to the Registrar/Treasurer. (c) The Application to Register or Record card must be completed in full and clearly state whether an animal is from a single or multiple birth, whether horned (albeit subsequently disbudded) or naturally polled, and resultant from artificial or natural mating. The animal must be tattooed at the time of such application. (d) Application to register or record can only be done by the registered owner or lessee of the dam at the time of the kid’s birth. This excluded Recorded Grade registration. (e) Application to Council shall be made to register or record a goat more than 12 months old or a goat bred by a non-member. Approval will be at the Council’s discretion. (f) Application to register or record goats bred by artificial methods be that through artificial insemination or embryo transplant shall be made to the Council. The application to be accompanied by a signed certificate as supplied by the association, along with a certified authenticated pedigree of both the sire and dam, if not registered in the Herd Book of this association. (g) The Council reserves the right to refuse a registration or recording, cancel or amend a registration or recording, and may if it so determines, assign a reason in writing. (h) The Council reserves the right to suspend the registration and recording privileges of any member where their practices are considered outside the Rules and Regulations of this association for whatever period is deemed necessary to allow every reasonable enquiry into the members practices to be made. 12. IMPORTED GOATS: (a) The animal must be inspected by a person appointed by the Council. The goat will be accepted for the appropriate register by the Council according to the NZDGBA Rules and Regulations. 13. ANIMALS REGISTERED OR RECORDED OUTSIDE OF NEW ZEALAND ONLY BUT KEPT IN NEW ZEALAND (a) To comply with the Rules and Regulations of this association, the goat must be registered or recorded with this association. Application to do so would be the same as that for an imported goat. (b) No progeny from a goat registered or recorded outside of New Zealand although kept in New Zealand can be registered or recorded with this association unless transferred as an imported goat. (c) No goat or its progeny, registered or recorded outside of New Zealand although kept in New Zealand shall be exhibited in New Zealand. 14. DISQUALIFICATION (b) Application to the Council shall include the goat’s registered name, number and ear tattoos. Details of disqualifying fault shall be given. (c) The owner and/or breeder may make such an application. (d) Any progeny born, prior to disqualification of the disqualified goat, shall be placed within the Herd Book at the discretion of the Council. 15. DEREGISTRATION (b) If the goat is sold, notification of deregistration must be made to the Council prior to sale. (c) Deregistration shall be at the discretion of the Council. (d) Any progeny born, prior to deregistration of the deregistered goat shall be placed within the Herd Book at the discretion of the Council. 16. NOTIFICATION OF DEATHS (b) The member will return the form within 60 days from the date of receipt, indicating those goats that have died. 17. TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP (b) The vendor shall forward to the Registrar/Treasurer the transfer form and appropriate transfer fee as published in the Dairy Goat News. (c) The date of sale in this instance is the day on which the sale was finalised. (d) The vendor shall supply to the purchaser a copy of the pedigree of that animal at the time of purchase or within 60 days. (e) Should there be circumstances where the transfer of ownership does not fit this criteria, the purchaser may apply to the Council for a Transfer by Declaration. A declaration of tattoos would accompany the application signed by a witness. The Registrar/Treasurer shall contact the last registered owner to confirm change of ownership of the animal. The purchaser would pay the transfer fee. 18. LEASES: (b) All leasing agreements must be registered with the Registrar by the Lessor and signed by both parties. (c) During the period of lease the progeny of leased animals must be registered or recorded under the Lessee’s prefix and tattooed with the Lessee’s registered earmark, except where otherwise provided for in the registered agreement. (d) For show purposes, the Lessee is deemed to be the owner. 19. UNSPECIFIED MATTERS: 20. MEMBERS RECORDS: 21. MEMBERSHIP: (b) SINGLE: A person with the right to register stock bred by him/herself; to receive a copy of the Rules; a single vote to be exercised personally; and to receive the Association’s magazine. (c) INTERMEDIATE: A child 15 years of age and under 18 years of age with the right to register stock bred by him/herself; to receive a copy of the Rules; a single vote to be exercised personally; and to receive the Association’s magazine. (d) JUNIOR: A child of under 15 years of age, sponsored by a person who is an adult financial member who shall be responsible to the Association for the Junior member’s adherence to the Rules and Regulations; with the right to register stock bred by him/herself and to receive the Association's magazine. No voting rights, not entitled to receive the Rules. (e) PARTNERSHIPS: Any group of members may register with this Association as a Partnership by applying in writing giving a complete list of those members forming the partnership signed by each of those members; each such partnership has the right to register stock bred by the partnership. The partnership will be treated as double membership as regards membership fees and voting rights. If the partnership exceeds two, then they must nominate two members who will exercise the voting rights personally. (f) COMPANY: Any institution or registered Limited Company may nominate two persons who shall be treated in all respects as a double membership. (g) AREA AND BREED CLUBS: The Council may approve the affiliation of any Area or Breed Club Group supplying annually: Affiliation shall be dependent on the club's adherence to the rules and regulations of the NZDGBA and payment of the annual affiliation fee. Affiliation entitles such Area or Breed Club Groups to the magazine and other Association publications, and general patronage. (h) ASSOCIATE: A person with the right to receive the Association’s magazine only, with no other membership rights. (i) HONORARY LIFE: Honorary Life Membership may be conferred to a member who has rendered outstanding service to the Association upon a majority vote by financial members present at an Annual General Meeting. An Honorary Life Member shall be entitled to all rights and privileges of a single membership subject to the payment of prescribed fees OTHER than the membership fee. 22. 24 HOUR MILKING COMPETITIONS: (b) In competitions where prize money, and/or trophies are awarded, does which have not kidded within two years of the date of the competition and does which yield less than 1.5 litres of milk and/or less than 3.0% fat shall be ineligible for the prize monies and/or trophies. (c) The scale of points, to be awarded subject to the foregoing clauses is as follows: (d) The following information, certified as correct by the two supervising stewards, must be supplied to the Secretary of the New Zealand Dairy Goat Breeders Association Inc. within 14 days of the Competition. (e) Any club or persons wishing to hold a “recognised” 24 hour milking other than at a “recognised show” shall apply in writing to the Committee of the New Zealand Dairy Goat Breeders Association Inc. with the following information:- The official recording forms shall be forwarded to the organisers with the Council’s notice of recognition prior to the date of the Competition. 23. MERIT AWARDS: (ii) Merit prefixes are to be awarded, upon application on the official form, to registered dairy goats which qualify on the evidence of official Herd Improvement Association Recording Returns or New Zealand Dairy Goat Breeders Association Group Production Returns, or on the evidence of official export certificates. (iii) All awards must be officially recorded and notification to that effect received by the applicant before they may be used. (b) AFFIXES: 24 hour milk production awards, based on milking competitions. STAR (*) AND Q STAR (Q*) AFFIX: (i) Star (*): When the yield of milk, length of lactation and percentage of fat only are taken into consideration and at least 18 points are obtained (with the fat percentage of the doe being not less than average of 3.5% for the 24 hours). (ii) Q Star (Q*): EITHER: When the yield of milk, length of lactation and percentage of fat only are taken into consideration and at least 18 points are obtained (with the fat percentage of the doe being not less than average of 3.5% for the 24 hours). OR: When the yield of milk, length of lactation, percentage of fat, and percentage of solids-to-fat are taken into consideration and at least 24 points are obtained (with the fat percentage of the doe being not less than average of 3.5% for the 24 hours) (iii) Star plus Numerals: A doe which has been awarded a Star is entitled to a numeral following the Star to indicate the number of ancestors in direct female line that have been awarded either the Star or Q Star (e.g. a doe bearing the affix *3 will herself have been awarded a Star, and her dam, grand-dam, and great-grand-dam will have been awarded either a Star or Q Star). (iv) Q Star plus Numerals: A doe which has been awarded a Q Star is entitled to a numeral following the Q Star to indicate the number of ancestors in direct female line that have been awarded the Q Star (e.g. a doe bearing the affix Q*3 will herself have been awarded a Q Star and her dam, grand-dam, and great-grand-dam with have been awarded the Q Star). (c) PREFIXES: Lactation Awards, based on Official Herd Improvement Association Recording Returns. (i) Prefix RS: To be awarded to any doe which has been recorded and attained her standard for age in the lactation period of 305 days. ‘Age’ means ‘age at the date of kidding’. The prefix shall be RS followed by numerals indicating the doe’s yield in tens of litres, followed by brackets enclosing the total kilograms of fat produced in that same lactation. (e.g.: RS69(26).) AGE (YEARS AND MONTHS) STANDARD FOR AGE under 1.06 617 litres milk or 22 Kg B/F (ii) Prefix R plus Numerals: To be awarded to any doe who has been recorded and yielded at least 880 litres of milk in 365 days or less. The prefix R shall have preference over and be substituted for RS. The prefix shall be R plus numerals indicating the doe’s milk yield (in her best lactation) in tens of litres, followed by brackets enclosing the total kilograms of fat produced in that same lactation, e.g. R88(45) indicates a milk yield of not less than 880 litres with 45 kilograms of fat. (iii) Prefix RM plus Numerals: A doe is registered in the Register of Merit when the doe herself, and her dam, have both been awarded the R110() prefix or better. A doe which is registered in the Register of Merit is entitled to the prefix RM plus numerals indicating the doe’s milk yield (in her best lactation of 365 days or less) in tens of litres followed by brackets showing the total kilograms of fat produced in that same lactation, e.g. RM154(79) indicates a milk yield of not less than 1,542 litres with 79 kilograms of fat.This prefix shall have preference over and be substituted for an R prefix. (iv) Prefix AR plus Numerals: (v) Extended Lactation: The New Zealand Dairy Goat Breeders Association Inc. shall also publish in its Herd Books a list of does qualifying for recognition for extended lactations; does to have yielded not less than 1,982 litres of milk in over 365 and under 730 days. An extended lactation period commences four days after kidding and terminates at the end of the natural lactation or on the 730th day after the commencement of the recording, whichever shall be the earlier. Inclusion in this list must be applied for. Does which qualify for an Extended Lactation Award shall be given an additional prefix of “EL” followed by the number of litres, and the number of days. This award shall follow all other prefixes. (e.g.RM156(57) EL2854(693).) (vi) Prefix Dagger: A registered or recorded male goat whose dam and whose sire’s dam have both been awarded a Star or Q*, shall be entitled to a dagger (†) before his name. (vii) Prefix Section Mark: A registered or recorded male goat whose dam and whose sire’s dam have been awarded an R prefix, shall be entitled to a Section Mark before his name. The Section Mark shall be followed by numerals indicating the R milk value only of the dam and the sire’s dam respectively. e.g. a male whose dam has been awarded R114, and whose sire’s dam has been awarded R141 qualifies for the prefix $114/141. The Section Mark and numerals shall be placed before a Dagger when a male has been awarded both. (viii) Prefix Double Section Mark: A registered or recorded male goat whose dam has been awarded an RM or AR prefix, and whose sire has been awarded the § or §§ and is out of a dam that has been awarded the RM or AR prefix, shall be awarded a Double Section Mark (§§) before his name. The Double Section Mark shall be followed by numerals indicating ‘R’ milk value only of the dam and sire’s dam respectively. e.g. a male whose dam has been awarded RM154, and whose sire’s dam has been awarded RM198, qualifies for the prefix §§154/198. The Double Section Mark and numerals shall have preferences over and be substituted for the Section Mark and numerals and shall be placed before a dagger when a male has been awarded both. (ix) Prefix SM (Sire of Merit): The prefix SM shall be awarded to a registered or recorded male goat who has sired not less than 5 does that have been awarded at least the Star or Q*or RS or R prefix. The prefix SM shall be followed by numeral(s) indicating the total number of daughters qualifying him for the award, followed by a decimal point, followed by numeral(s) indicating the number of different herds in which such daughters have gained their awards. This prefix shall have preference over and be substituted for all inherited prefixes (i.e. §§, § and †) and shall be written before any other awards earned by the buck himself (e.g. GCH, CH). (x) Prefix AM (Advanced Merit): The prefix AM shall be awarded to a registered or recorded male goat who has sired not less than 5 does that have been awarded not less than R100 prefix. The award AM shall have preference over and be substituted for the award SM and shall be written before any other awards earned by the buck himself. (xi) Prefix DM (Dam of Merit): To be awarded to a doe with four or more progeny that have been awarded: Q*, R, RM, AR, SM, AM or GCH prefix. 24. SHOW AWARDS BREED CHAMPION (BCH) - prefix GRAND CHAMPION (GCH) - prefix ADVANCED GRAND CHAMPION - (AGC) - prefix (i) Those goats which have already been awarded their Breed Champion are ineligible for further Breed Awards. (b) TYPE AND PRODUCTION 1: PRODUCTION POINTS: Option 1. Option 2. TYPE POINTS: (c) TYPE AND PRODUCTION II: a) A Milking Competition shall be based on two milkings, the second milking to be completed not more than 24 hours after the competing animals have been stripped dry in accordance with Regulation 19(c) (ii). b) Points for the calculations of the Type and Production II Champion will be accumulated from:- c) Does must be penned the day before the show by the time stated on the show schedule. (ii) The does must be stripped dry under the supervision of a steward or other properly appointed person in the afternoon or evening prior to the date on which any judging or competition takes place. (iii) The does are not to be stripped out until the time advised by the chief steward. d) Does will be first milked out on the day of the show following the Best Udder Classes at the time designated by the chief steward and under the supervision of a steward. (i) All exhibits are milked outside their pen as directed. e) The milk test samples are to be sent to a recognised test centre for analysis. (i) The results are to be calculated and forwarded to the New Zealand Dairy Goat Breeders Association in accordance with Regulation 22 (d). (d) ANNUAL AWARDS: Champion Challenge Award - 3 points. Points for Milking Competitions, Type and Production I, Best Udder, Type and Production II, Grand Champion Age and Standard Age classes: First Place - 6 points. DOE OF THE YEAR: The doe gaining the highest number of points from Champion Challenge, Champion, Reserve Champion, Milking Competition, Type and Production I, Type and Production II, Best Udder, Grand Champion Age and Standard Age classes shall be awarded Doe of the Year and shall receive a trophy for perpetual competition. BUCK OF THE YEAR: The buck gaining the highest number of points from Champion Challenge, Champion, Reserve Champion, Grand Champion Age and Standard Age classes shall be awarded Buck of the Year and shall receive a trophy for perpetual competition. SIRE OF THE YEAR: The buck whose male and female progeny gains the most points over the show season shall be awarded Sire of the Year. Points shall be allocated from kid classes, Best Udder, Progeny classes, Type and Production I, Type and Production II, and individual Grand Champion Age and Standard Age classes, provided that not more than 1/4 of the points be from kid classes. TOP LACTATION DOE: To be awarded to the doe producing the highest number of litres of milk in 305 days on official Herd Test in the previous season. TOP BUTTERFAT DOE: To be awarded to the doe producing the highest number of kilograms of fat in 305 days on official Herd Test in the previous season. TOP PROTEIN DOE: To be awarded to the doe producing the highest number of kilograms of protein in 305 days on official herd test in the previous season. GOATLING OF THE YEAR: The goatling gaining the highest number of points from Junior Champion, Junior Reserve Champion and Standard Age classes shall be awarded Goatling of the Year. BUCKLING OF THE YEAR: The buckling gaining the highest number of points from Champion Challenge, Champion, Reserve Champion, Grand Champion Age and Standard Age classes shall be awarded Buckling of the Year and shall receive a trophy for perpetual competition. DOE KID OF THE YEAR: The doe kid gaining the highest number of points from Junior Champion, Junior Reserve Champion and Standard Age classes shall be awarded Doe Kid of the Year. BUCK KID OF THE YEAR: The buck kid gaining the highest number of points from Junior Champion, Junior Reserve Champion and Standard Age classes shall be awarded Buck Kid of the Year. (e) Associated Record Does possessing a disqualifying fault common to all breeds may not be exhibited at a recognised show other than in such special classes as Junior Showmanship, Pet Goat etc. 25. RECOGNITION OF SHOWS (i) Any affiliated Breed Club or Agricultural and Pastoral Association wishing to have a show so “recognised” by this Association must apply to the Association in writing, together with the proposed schedule of classes, date, and venue, in time to have approval granted and the “recognition” published in the Association’s official publication before the closing date of the show. 26. SHOW AWARDS 27. APPOINTMENT OF JUDGES (b) Persons wishing to become Judges must apply to the Association Council before the closing date determined by Council and published each year in the official publication of the Association. (c) Trainee Judges are to comply with training requirements as determined by the Council from time to time. (d) Qualification to Judges panel is at the discretion of Council who shall publish names of those on the panel each year, in alphabetical order. (e) Officiating Judges must be selected from the Judges Panel. 28. CONDUCT AT SHOWS 29. HERD TESTING (b) Any member submitting his herd for test at the shed of a member of a Herd Testing organisation, and not himself a member of that organisation, must also comply with the Uniform Rules for Herd Testing Dairy Goats. (c) Any number of members may combine their herds at the shed of a member of a Herd Testing organisation, provided that: (d) Members who wish to have merit awards granted from Herd Testing results must supply full details of herd and copies of final test for each goat to the Association. (e) The Association reserves the right to accept or reject the figures supplied by any Herd Testing organisation, when calculating and issuing Merit Awards to members’ goats. (f) The Association may conduct, or arrange to have conducted, a check test of any member’s herd at any time Any members failing to comply with the foregoing Regulation may, at the discretion of the Council, forfeit all Merit Awards for the season, and all record of production for the season may be erased from the Association's records.
